Our church family is organized within the framework of the 2016 edition of the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church. We do have a paid staff of a minister, a full-time church secretary, a maintenance person, and a groundskeeper. However, our dedicated volunteers do much or even most of the work required to fulfill our mission to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and make disciples for Him.

As a result, we fulfill our mission by organizing into a Church Council and various Teams devoted to specific portions of our mission. All meetings are open to the public, with the exception of SPRC.

Church Council – the Council is the executive group at Malesus UMC that guides the activities of our church family.  In other words they are generally the final authority for enhancing your faith journey. This includes finances (of course) but the whole gamut of our actions. While the minister can be the final authority for all matters concerning Malesus UMC, as a practical matter he works closely with the Council to fulfill our stated mission, vision, and goals.

Congregational Care Team – This Team coordinates all the Team members for most everything that directly concerns our church family.  They bring together our church family in everything from coordinating our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, delivering meals and home communion where needed, and just about everything that we need to do to be a caring and thriving church family.

Missions Team – This Team coordinates all the Team members for most everything that affects our community and our world.  As we are a mission-oriented church this is our largest and most involved Team.  We make a significant difference in our community!  See the separate web page titled “Serving Our Community / Missions / Outreach”.

Finance Team – While we are focused on being a church, we are also a business. Using donations, endowments and other financial instruments, the Finance Team recommends to the Church Council budgets and non-routine expenditures.

SPRC (Staff Parish Relations Committee) – The SPRC is the only confidential portion of our church. As such, non-committee members may attend by invitation only and its Agendas and Minutes are not published. This is done to ensure a free and open discussion among the committee members concerning any of the paid employees of the church.

Trustees – The Trustees are responsible to the Church Council for the physical repairs, maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and ground that make up the campus of Malesus UMC. Our campus is the primary location for our church family members to grow their Faith and thus is a point of pride for our Trustees to keep our campus in first-class conditions.

Digital Communications & Technology – Originally formed by the Church Council in February 2022, this Team originally began as the Website Development Team to design & implement a new website as the digital front door for our community to meet our church & its church family members. In January 2023 the Church Council approved the present name of the Team with a new mission to provide relevant and up-to-date information to both our church family & to our community and to serve as an Example where Faith and the Real World intersect.
